Ghostly illusions could one day help disguise military aircraft for greater stealth, researchers say.

Ilusiones fantasmales podrían algún día ayudar a las aeronaves militares camufladas a efectuar sus misiones  con  mayor sigilo, dicen los investigadores.

In the last eight years or so, scientists have discovered cloaking devices are possible, which can bend and twist light completely around objects, rendering them invisible. Cloaking devices that work against other kinds of waves are possible as well, such as the acoustic waves used in sonar.

En los últimos ocho años, los científicos han descubierto dispositivos de camuflaje , que  pueden  doblar y retorcer luz completamente alrededor de los objetos, haciéndolos invisibles. Dispositivos de camuflaje que trabajan contra otros tipos de ondas, son también posibles   especialmente los que utilizan ondas  acústicas utilizadas en el sonar .

"Our work has enormous potential to enhance our ability to mold, harness and perceive waves at will," said researcher Cheng-Wei Qiu, a physicist at the National University of Singapore.

"Nuestro trabajo tiene un enorme potencial para mejorar la capacidad de moldear, aprovechar y percibir ondas a voluntad", dijo el investigador Wei Cheng-Qiu, un físico de la Universidad Nacional de Singapur.

-However, such cloaks are usually limited to working against narrow ranges of frequencies for various types of waves. An international team of physicists instead explored devices that could potentially work against wide bands of frequencies, generating illusory ghosts as disguises.

-Sin embargo, tales capas se limitan generalmente a trabajar en contra de los rangos estrechos de frecuencias para diferentes tipos de ondas. Un equipo internacional de físicos está explorado dispositivos que potencialmente podrían trabajar en contra de anchas bandas de frecuencias, generando imágenes fantasmales  ilusorias como disfraces.
